The purple-lipped juga inhabits gravel-boulder riffles in cold, highly-oxygenated water.

Limiting factors

Habitat loss due to dams and fragmentation of waterways pose threats to this species. Water diversions and changes in water quality (e.g., increases in temperature, reductions in oxygen levels) can also have negative effects.

Conservation actions

Maintain or restore high water quality.
